Nea Roda

New Roda is the second largest district of the Stagira - Acanthus municipality. It is built along the coast at the narrowest point of the peninsula, where in 480 BC Xerxes opened a canal of 1800 meters for his fleet. Today the village is a tourist resort and offers many choices of hotels, apartment rooms, apartments, bars, cafes, taverns, restaurants, and Camping. In a short distance of 6 km. from New Roda is Ierissos. At New Roda a two day cultural event is held with traditional dances of the home country, on the 22 and 23 of August, celebrating the novena of Our Lady. On the last Monday of July the Sardine Festival takes place.

The church of St. Nicholas and the Assumption of the virgin Mary in the center of N. Roda hosts the miraculous icon of Virgin Mary, from the land of origin of the refugees.
